Grinding is the third step in sample preparation. The objective is to remove the deformation introduced by the cutting process. Ideally the sample is plane and with low deformation after the grinding process.
Diamond Grinding Discs like our Piatto are very popular due to the ease of use, superior planeness and economy in comparison to the traditional grinding paper.
Grinding paper is still used by many, and when grinding soft materials lower than 150HV there is still no real alternative. Rhaco Grit is our own brand of grinding paper with a number of unique features.
A Grinding Stone is used on a dedicated grinding machine. Due to the high capital investment this is only used when you have a significant volume of samples. Today alternatives excist in Diamond Grinding Discs and Ridgid Discs even to medium high volume users.
